Real Mas, Inc. is a non-profit organization that prides itself on its unique and professional approach to Carnival. Founded in April of 2008 by myself, Ms. Simone Edwards, along with co-founders with more than 10 years of experience in the entertainment industry, our team is comprised of professionals committed to perfection and dedicated to hard work. Our intention is to raise the bar in the masquerading business and to wow spectators with our costume presentation. But most importantly, we intend to reignite the interest and pride in St. Thomas Carnival.
Real Mas Carnival Troupe is in it’s second year of existence, but we feel like we’ve been around for much longer. Real Mas made its debut for St. Thomas Carnival 2009, but the mas did not stop there. After receiving nothing but great feedback on our costume presentation — “The Elements of Life” — Real Mas was asked to design and produce the entire costume presentation for St. John’s Love City Show Girlz for St. John Carnival in July 2009. Additionally, our costume designs have been worn by St. Thomas’ very own international soca singer, Rudy, and her back-up dancers. To say the least, Real Mas’ first year was indeed a busy one.
Unlike many Carnival troupes in St. Thomas Virgin Islands, Real Mas takes extreme pride in the fact that our costume designs are cultivated locally. All of our costume production is done right here in St. Thomas by our very own talented and skillful mas camp members; hence the name “Real Mas”. We are not importing any costumes, and in the process, we are enhancing and in some cases developing the art form for Carnivals to come.
For St. Thomas Carnival 2010, Real Mas presents "My Kind Ah Fete". Revelers will pick between two distinctly different types of parties: One more formal and suave and the other more colorful and vibrant.
